Adventure Travel Bucket List Ideas for Your 20s and 30s

May 24, 2019

If you seek adventure and new experiences, you'll want to drop in on this travel bucket list.

There are so many places to see and activities to experience around the world, and the truth is...we're all scrambling to figure out which ones we'll actually do in our lifetimes. Sure, there are some things you can do at pretty much any point in your life (like visit the Great Wall of China or see the Eiffel Tower), but there are others that require you to be at your highest social and energy level, and those bucket list items are a liiiittle more worth crossing off while you're young.

Whether you're hoping to embark on a journey to see the most breathtaking views in the world, or dive into some of the most exhilarating adventures on the planet; hoping to meet lots of new friends, or find your true strength in a solo adventure...we're here to start off your travel bucket list for your 20s and 30s.

Camel ride through the Sahara

Before leaving Morocco, a camel ride through the Sahara desert is a must. We often think of camels when we think of the Sahara and large expanses of sand, but a truly unique experience is the actual camel ride. Instead of riding your horse into the sunset, take a camel and feel transported to an ancient time.

Drink Mezcal in Mexico

Made from the Agave plant (think sweeteners), Mezcal is the OG of distilled Mexican liquors. Made in Mexico for nearly 400 years, it's more than just a drink, it's an experience for your taste buds of the rich culture and hard work that goes into making it. The plants are harvested when most ripe and then roasted in the ground under stone and dirt before the fermented juice is distilled in clay pots. It's truly an authentic experience and has only recently been produced outside of its native land.

Dog sled in Lapland

This is just one of those things you HAVE to do when in Lapland. Most people go for the Northern Lights and snowy escape (which are also great), but you'll be missing out if you don't take the time to hop on a sled and man your own team of trained dog sledding Huskies. The chill in your face and speed of the wind is adrenaline-pumping, and beyond your everyday travel activity.

Go sky diving in south Island New Zealand

While you could probably skydive anywhere in the world and experience a similar adrenaline rush, there's an added bonus to skydiving in this beautiful land. The *breathtaking* views of the South Island's majestic snowcapped mountains make skydiving in Fox Glacier one of the most scenic skydives in the world.

Get a Vespa ride from a local in Rome

Of course you could always walk through Rome...but then you wouldn't be doing the city justice! Ride through the city's cobblestoned streets like a local, and make the most of your day in Rome. You'll enjoy sightseeing and also saving yourself from what can easily become a tiring experience if you've never walked on uneven roads for several hours at a time, as visitors and tourists often do.

Jump into the fjords in Norway

Norway has more than 1,000 fjords, all formed thousands of years ago through geographic transformations that resulted in long inlets surrounded by steep mountains. With so many amazing views in every direction, you're going to want to make the most of your experience there and what better way to immerse yourself into the natural landscape than by jumping in for a refreshing dip? (Do your research ahead of time though, and make sure you're not swimming in restricted areas.)

Explore limestone caves in Halong Bay, Vietnam

Within the world famous limestone cliffs of Halong Bay are a series of naturally formed caves that make up an enormous cave system. These beautiful ancient caves can be hiked, walked, and some, kayaked through. The unique formations within the caves make for awesome wildlife encounters and some definite insta-worthy pics.

hop the Greek islands

There's nothing quite like it, and it's best to do this while you're young and energetic and ready to take advantage of some seriously excellent nightlife. Expect lots of sunshine, pristine beaches, beautiful views and of course, delicious cuisine. Get from one island to the next by ferry, speedboat, or sailboat, and bask in the sun while enjoying one-of-a-kind views of towns perched up against the region's glistening, turquoise waters.

Swim with Whale sharks in Australia

Next to exploring the Great Barrier Reef, swimming with whale sharks in Australia is definitely an experience that should be on every ocean lover's bucket list. One of the best places to do this is Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia. The experience of swimming with the biggest (known) fish in the sea is unlike any other. They can grow up to 40ft in length (imagine, like, a school bus?), and weigh more than 20 tons. But don't worry, they eat mostly plankton and small fish.

take a volcanic mud bath in Colombia

Here's one of the best places in the world for a mud bath, and no trip to Cartagena is complete without stopping at this popular destination. Located near the city is Volcan, El Totumo, a mud pool that is visited by thousands of people every year who are hoping for a shot at a slippery, earthy experience in the active mud volcano. Experience a warm mud bath and even get a massage from an on-site masseuse while you're at it!

Discover Cenotes in Mexico

Along the Yucatán Peninsula is one Mexico's most distinct geological features, a series of cenotes that today are a huge bucket list destination for outdoor adventurers. With more than 6,000 cenotes to explore, adventurers will find themselves wanting to return time and again. There are many different kinds of cenotes, some with high vertical walls and others that are wide and low, but they're all essentially water-filled sinkholes. Many of these have yet to be explored.

Sandboard in Morocco

Experience the amazing sand dunes of Morocco in the best way possible: sand boarding down their steep slopes. The area of Merzouga in the Sahara Desert is the best place for sandboarding, and the unique experience calls out to snowboarders, skiers and surfers alike. So rent a board and ride those dunes!

Walk 400+ steps to the top of Florence's Duomo

Strolling through Florence is one way to get lost in the city's beauty, but climbing the 400+ steps to the top of the iconic dome is an absolute treat and if you make it the top, you'll be rewarded with expansive views of the city, unlike any other. The climb itself is absolutely mesmerizing as you are just feet away from monumental frescos painted within the interior. Though you can admire this building from without, it becomes an experience when you can climb it from within. (Just make sure to book your ticket and date in advance!)

Explore endless waterfalls in Iceland

Needless to say, there's much to see in Iceland and it's dramatic landscapes are enough to make you want to visit. But these abundant (and yes, magnificent) waterfalls are not to be missed. Wherever you go, you're bound to come across one, but some of the most iconic ones include Seljalandsfoss, located in the southern region, Dettifoss, "Europe's most powerful waterfall," and Gullfoss, one of the country's most visited waterfalls.

Explore Capri on a speed boat

One of the best ways to make the most of your visit to the southern coastal region of Italy is by zipping around in a speed boat. This way, you'll get a chance to enjoy some time over the water (or in it, if you're down for a dip), and you'll also get up close and personal with the beautiful island of Capri. There, you can explore the coves along the coast of the island or the iconic Blue Grotto. Beautiful views and an exhilarating experience make this the ultimate year-round travel experience for adventurers.
