The iceland w inter TRIP For the love of CHASING WATERFALLS NORTHERN LIGHTS BLACK SAND BEACHES CROSSING GLACIERS BRENNIVIN REYKJAVIK COLORS LAGOON LOUNGIN' VIKING LEGENDS ICELAND DAY BY DAY TRIP NOTES REVIEWS LEARN MORE SEE DATES & BOOK WHAT TO EXPECT Welcome to our wildest adventure yet. There’s outdoor fun, and then there’s outdoor fun Icelandic style. If you’re up for lounging in hot springs, conquering snow-covered lava fields, and trekking along volcanic beaches, head north with us for the ultimate winter adventure. First stop, Reykjavik—from colorful homes to street art, and oddly endearing hardcore metal shows, it’s a city full of surprises. It’s also the only place we know of with both fermented shark and world-renowned hot dogs on the menu. After exploring the capital, we’ll head south to wander iceberg-studded, obsidian beaches ripped from the pages of fantasy novels. So come along and slug down some Brennivin beneath the northern lights, find your footing in the mist of cascading falls, and reach out to blue ceilings of frozen rolling waves in glacial ice caves. 2024 2025 5 days/4 nights starting at $2,799 USD Limited single room upgrades starting from $659 are available and can be added during booking, subject to availability. Payment can be broken down into a $500 deposit + 3 additional installme nts. SEE DATES & BOOK LEARN MORE INcluded All accommodations in a shared room with one other person with the option to upgrade to a private room (limited availability) 4 breakfasts at hotels 2 lunches 3 dinners Welcome drinks Reykjavik Foodie Tour, the capital’s top ranked culinary adventure Lagoon spa experience at Sky Lagoon Explore Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon Jeep ride and hike to Breiðamerkurjökull and Vatnajokull ice caves Tour of black sand, volcanic Diamond Beach FTLO Trip Leader * All activities are weather dependent; in the unlikely event that we are unable to run an activity, we will have a suitable alternative in place. not included Flights to and from Reykjavik Mandatory trip insurance Meals not mentioned (Budget around $200) Incidental expenses Day by day Day by day *Itinerary is indicative and is subject to change Day 1 – Reykjavik EAT UP REYKJAVIK Get into Reykjavik early and start exploring on foot before meeting up with the group. Check out the Church of Hallgrimskirkja or Laugavegur, the central shopping district, and come to terms with the fact that Duolingo didn’t adequately prepare you for Icelandic pronunciations. After that, consider popping over to the nearby Blue Lagoon and relaxing in the steamy lap of luxury. In the afternoon, we’ll meet up for a private food tour that just so happens to be the highest-rated culinary adventure in the entire city. Get a base layer of unique Icelandic eats in you, and then dabble in some Brennivin, the country’s iconic distilled beverage. Known lovingly as “Black Death,” it should get you going for a night on the town. Head out with new friends; the evening is yours to enjoy. ARRIVE Day 2 – Reykjavik to Vik Glacial crossing After a bite with the team at the hotel, we’re headed south to vast, sparsely inhabited terrain. We’ll stop at Seljalandsfoss and hike into the gorge behind the 200-foot waterfall before continuing on and checking out the Dyrhólaey viewpoint. This arching rock formation juts into the sea, providing incredible views of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, black volcanic beaches, and lava sea stacks off Reynisfjara. We’ll grab lunch together, surrounded by imposing rock walls in the tiny town of Vik, and then we’re off to Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon to step into soaring landscapes so surreal they’d make Tolkien jealous. Eventually, we’ll wind our way to our hotel beneath remote looming mountains, where we'll sit down for a traditional Icelandic dinner together and kick back beneath those endless Icelandic stars. Marvel Day 3 – Southern Iceland Blues & greens Eat up; we’ve got a big day ahead. We’re moving on east to check out the towering, jagged icebergs floating through the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and then to Diamond Beach to stroll between the mammoth, sparkling chunks of ice that sprinkle black volcanic sands. We’ll grab some grub and refuel with the team, and then we’re off on a Jeep and walking tour of the ice caves in Breiðamerkurjökull and Vatnajokull (and no, we can’t pronounce those either). The undulating blues and greens of these sprawling caverns may only be outdone by the northern lights, which we should get a glimpse of tonight at our secluded accommodation near Vik. Grab dinner with friends; you’ve got another free night to take it all in. trek * Day 4 – Reykjavik Viking treasure After breakfast at the hotel, we're northbound to Reykjavik once more. Along the way, we'll stop and check out the sprawling Skogafoss Falls, where, as the legend says, Vikings hid ancient treasure before sealing it off with magic. Take a look for yourself and see if the waters sparkle with gold or diamonds. We’ll hit up the hot springs at Sky Lagoon for lunch and one last sizzling adventure before we arrive in Reykjavik, and then we’ll regroup in the city for a final dinner altogether. If you’re feeling up to it, head off on a pub crawl with friends to go out in style. unwind Say your goodbyes over breakfast with the group before you fly. If you've got a later flight, do some more Reykjavik exploring. The city's full of fascinating architecture, arts, and culture. Take a walk down to the waterfront to check out the Harpa, the glass building that plays host to concerts and shows throughout the year, explore the Old Harbor, or take in the views over by the Grotta Lighthouse. Got more vacation time to spare? Grab a rental car and keep on driving the island or even consider heading out on a whale watching tour. Day 5 – Reykjavik farewell "You cannot rob me of free nature’s grace. You cannot shut the windows of the sky through which Aurora shows her brightening face…” - James Thomson FAST FACTS Fast facts JUST FOR FUN Reykjavik is the northernmost capital in the world and home to more than one third of the Icelandic population. Storytelling, myth, and legend are hugely important in Icelandic culture and many people still believe in trolls and elves to this day. Brennivin is Iceland’s most famous distilled alcohol. It’s made from fermented grain mash, high-ph water, and caraway. TRIP NOTES While we can’t guarantee private rooms on your Iceland vacation, you sho uld book your trip earlier if you prefer one, as they usually fill up. We’ll have an excellent opportunity to see the northern lights, but they’re not always visible. Iceland is a small country, but the weather can change fast, so be prepared with your wardrobe. On European trips, we stay as close to historic city centers as possible. This means your accommodations will often be on the small side, quirky, and unique (we love this!). Due to the potential for inclement weather in the winter months, certain locations may be impassable and swapped out for different experiences. Travelers on the New Years Eve trip should budget an additional $300. The New Year’s trip includes an additional night in Reykjavik, an added group lunch, and a special New Year’s Eve dinner. Travelers on this trip will visit Sky Lagoon the day after they return to the capital instead of on the way back from southern Iceland. Please note the NYE trip has an extra night to celebrate New Years Eve and New Years Day. It's a 5 night / 6 day trip with a new price of $3,799. There are some long drives on this trip (5 hours) but filled with stunning views and broken up by interesting stops. Ensure your passport is valid for 3-months after your return date. All activities are weather dependent; in the unlikely event that we are unable to run an activity, we will have a suitable alternative in place. More information regarding visa requirements and Covid restrictions can be found here . About iceland Iceland was first settled by Norwegians back in the 800s. The country sits atop the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, directly above several volcanoes. This, in turn, provides numerous benefits when it comes to an energy source, as more than 25% of the country can run on geothermal power. The rest of the country runs on hydropower, meaning the nation is on 100% renewable energy. GOOD TO KNOW Iceland’s official currency is the Icelandic Krona. The country ranks number 1 on the Global Peace Index. The country’s national language is Icelandic. In the summer, Iceland sees little to no darkness. Conversely, in the winter there are only a few hours of sunlight. SEE DATES & BOOK LEARN MORE flights Fly into Reykjavik (KEF) You'll need to be in Reykjavik by 1pm on Day 1; however, we do recommend flying in earlier to have some time to explore the city on your own! If you take a flight that arrives in the morning, check out the Blue Lagoon on your way to Reykjavik (reservations required). Fly out of Reykjavik (KEF) Fly out of Reykjavik at any time on day 5. We recommend a later flight so you can enjoy a bit more exploring before heading back home. Want to check out flights for your trip? After touching down on Greece’s largest island, head to your hotel in the sun-kissed seaside town of Agios Nikolaos. Fringed by arid mountains, this colorful eastern Crete capital is home to plenty of mythical tales (we’re not far from Zeus’s hometown, after all); if you get in early, head out and start diving into tales of a legendary past. In the evening, we’ll all meet up in the hotel lobby and venture out for drinks and our first taste of Cretan food - said to be the best in Greece! Get to know your travelmates over local wine and fresh local recipes. ARRIVE Day 2 - A gios Nikolaos Water world Have breakfast with friends at the hotel and then grab your shades and sunscreen; we’ve got a boat to catch. By mid-morning, we’ll be heading north from the docks at Agios Nikolaos hugging rugged, rocky coastlines on a traditional Cretan caique. You’ll cruise past the sunken city of Olous (which archaeologists believe was submerged back in the second century by an earthquake) before winding up on the rocky shores of an ancient fortressed island to explore ruins that have withstood the test of time. We’ll cruise back through the bay for a barbeque in paradise before diving into the oh-so-blue waters off Kolokytha Beach. After a day at sea, hit the town with your new friends. Day by day cruise Day 3 - Agios N., Rethymno Ancient Treasure Grab a light breakfast before we head out to explore an epic past and one delicious present. We’ll get things rolling in the hills of a nearby olive oil farm, where you’ll tour the facilities, learn the ins and outs of time-honored techniques, and settle down for some farm fresh eats (think cheeses, honey, and a few secret specialties). As this is one all-encompassing experience, you’ll even step into the kitchen to learn how to cook like a Cretan yourself. After dining locally, we’ll make the short ride over to Knossos Palace to check out the crumbling stone structures of Crete’s oldest Bronze Age ruins (they originated around 7,000 BC!). That evening, keep rolling on west to Rethymno, where we’ll get together for a delicious group dinner. FeAST Day 4 - Rethymno Arts Enclave Today, we’re cruising over to the magical little town of Margarites to mix in some art with our Cretan adventure. This colorful stone village just so happens to be the pottery capital of the island, so it’s only fitting that we’ll learn about ceramics, from the local raw materials to the finished product from some talented locals. After a brief intro, it’s time to get your hands dirty and get potting with the best of them. We’ll grab a delicious local lunch nearby, and then in the evening, wind our way back to Rethmyno, where you can head out for dinner and drinks with friends. UNWIND Day 5 - Rethymno Lakeside view Enjoy a morning of leisure and then we’re off once more, this time towards Crete’s largest freshwater lake. We’ll wind up on the golden shores of Lake Kournas around noon for an afternoon of swimming, paddleboarding, and relaxing on one of the island’s greenest lagoons. So kick back on a sunbed, grab a tropical cocktail, and soak up the good life. After a day of lakeside lounging and a traditional Greek lunch with one amazing lake view, we’ll make our way to Chania for one final seaside setup. The evening is free to explore the 14th-century Venetian harbor with new friends. EXPLORE Day 6 - Chania Cave to coast Fuel up on Greek coffee and a delicious breakfast before heading out to explore Southwestern Crete! We’ll get things started lounging along one of the island’s most spectacular sandy stretches as you discover the one special secret that has made this particular corner of coast so famous. And then, after some seaside chillin’, we’ll head up toward the rocky mountains that pepper this region, where you’ll say hello to the massive cliffside chambers of the Agia Sofia Cave and walk among enormous stalagmites and stalactites. From there, we’ll wind our way to one of the most famous monasteries on the whole island. This rocky 17th-century Eastern Orthodox beauty hangs high above the coast overlooking the Libyan Sea. After a day of exploring, head back to town; the night is yours. Taste Day 7 - Chania Country Feast Get ready to eat your way through Chania as we explore one delectably fresh farmer's market. In the morning, we'll meet up with our expert local guide, who will take us on our tour of the town to learn all about the region's local produce. After savoring the goods, we'll make our way downtown to continue through the shops and cafes of Chania's colorful streets. And then, in the afternoon, it's time for a drink or two; you've earned it. Aperol spritz, anyone? We'll all get together one last time that night to learn a traditional Cretan dance before we sit down for a delicious, music-filled farewell dinner. BOOK! Day 8 - Chania Antío Sas Find your friends and grab one final bite at the hotel before you you head back to reality. The history, culture, and food of Greece are always waiting, so come back when you can. If you’ve got some more time to spare, well, this magical country has plenty more in store for you. So keep on cruisin’ through Crete or go island hopping and check out some more magical Mediterranean beauty. I knew that no matter what door you knock on in a Cretan village, it will be opened for you. A meal will be served in your honor, and you will sleep between the best sheets in the house. In Crete, the stranger is still the unknown god. Before him, all doors and all hearts are opened. - Nikos Kazantzakis FAST FACTS Fast Facts Just for fun Crete’s caves are home to more than a few legends. Zeus, arguably the most famous God in Greek mythology, calls one of them his birthplace. We’re not exaggerating about the history. Civilization on Crete goes back to the 7,000s BC! Crete is home to the Olive tree of Vouves. At more than 2,000 years of age, it’s one of the world’s oldest. Trip notes While we can’t guarantee private rooms, you sho uld book your trip earlier if you prefer one, as they usually fill up. Summers in Crete are hot, dry, and sunny, so pack accordingly. Ensure your passport is valid for 6 months after your return date. On European trips, we stay as close to historic city centers as possible. This means your accommodations will often be on the small side, quirky, and unique (we love this!). All activities are weather dependent; in the unlikely event that we are unable to run an activity, we will have a suitable alternative in place. More information regarding visa requirements and Covid restrictions can be found here . SEE DATES & BOOK LEARN MORE About Crete Of more than 200 inhabited Greek islands, Crete is the largest. However, it’s not the size that makes this fascinating place important; it’s the history. Many archaeologists and historians consider this mountainous stretch of land the birthplace of modern Europe. While settlement date to the 7th millennium BC, stone tools that have been found on the island, are believed to be 130,000 years old—meaning early hominids most likely existed here at some point. GOOD TO KNOW Greek is the national language; however, those on the island speak with a very specific dialect known as Cretan Greek. All of Greece uses the euro for currency. Tipping is not mandatory nor expected from locals; for tourists 10% is appreciated at restaurants. Flights Flights Fly into Heraklion Airport (HER) We recommend buying a roundtrip flight to Athens and then booking a a separate regional flight to Crete if you want to save money. You'll need to be in Agios Nikolaos by 2pm on Day 1. From Heraklion Airport to Agios Nikalaos takes about 50 minutes by taxi. Fly out of Chania (CHQ) We recommend flying out of Chania or extending your trip and enjoying a few more days in Greece. Near the charming town of Killin, we'll check out the Falls of Dochart, which tumble dramatically over ancient volcanic rocks. From there, we'll continue on, before stepping out into the wild again to explore the steep cliffs of Killiecrankie that tower over the River Garry. We'll spend that night in one incredible setting, so grab dinner together, and then you can kick back with a few drinks with friends. play Day 4 - Glasgow Skyfall Chat it up over breakfast before we twist on through Scotland's epic mountains and gorges. Today, we're rolling into Glencoe, home to the iconic Three Sisters peaks (you may recognize the dramatic landscape from a certain James Bond flick). Make sure you've got the camera ready; these endless landscapes seem to change constantly—they're raw, rugged, open, and sure to make you feel miniscule in comparison. After that, we'll stop for a stroll in picturesque Luss along the shore of Loch Lomond before moving on to Glasgow. That night, we'll wind down from the highlands to Scotland's biggest city where we'll chow down on a local food tour (did someone say "haggis"?) and check out a blend of heritage and the modern world along the River Clyde. DISCOVER Day 5 - Galway Galway Girls & Guys Say goodbye to Scotland and hello to the Emerald Isle; today we’re hopping on a flight to Dublin to get a glimpse of all things Ireland. After touching down, we’re heading to Galway, one of the true beauties of Ireland. It’s a bit of a ride, so we’ll stop for our first Irish bite along the way. That night, head out with the crew and explore Ireland’s most colorful and charismatic little city. We recommend hitting up Quay Street for dinner, drinks, and some Irish tunes. * explore Day 6 - Galway cliffs & country Have a bite with the group at the hotel before heading south for a day exploring Ireland’s staggering coastline. We’ll meet up with our guide and hit the Burren, the otherworldly rock formation that stretches for 100s of square kilometers across rolling terrain. Grab lunch and a little Irish coffee pick-me-up before heading over toward the Cliffs of Moher. Formed some 300 million years ago, the towering ledges hang 500 feet over the windswept Atlantic. This is, without a doubt, one of the country’s most incredible sites. After checking it out, head back to Galway, where the night is yours to grab dinner with friends, explore the lovely streets, and decide for yourself whether the Scots or the Irish have the more difficult accent to get a hold of. adventure Day 7 - Dublin Fair City Catch up with the crew over breakfast, and then we’ll start winding our way to the capital. It’s a bit of a ride, so before we pull in for Guinness fresh from the source, we’ll keep the good times rolling at a farm along the way to check out one epic sheepdog experience as we get the low down on how to herd with the best of them. After getting to Dublin, grab a bite and then meet back up with the group in the city center for a night on the town—it’s time to go pub crawling through the famous streets of the capital. Pull up a seat and chat it up with gregarious Dubliners whose stories flow faster than the pints. taste Day 8 - Dublin Gaelic Games Get a good breakfast at the hotel; you’re going to need your energy today. We’re hitting the pitch and taking a shot at some Gaelic games. From hurling to handball and football, sports are an integral part of the Irish experience. Of course, there’s no better way to learn than to dive in yourself, so get ready for some good old-fashioned fun with your new friends and teammates. After a day at the field, explore the city before meeting up for a final meal. Then, the evening is yours to soak up the sights, sounds, and suds of the Irish capital. wander Day 9 - Dublin Mar Sin Leat Smile because it happened, don’t cry because it’s over. Unfortunately, the end is here, so eat up with your friends before saying goodbye and heading home or onward to your next adventure. If you’ve got a later flight, hit the streets for one last bit of sightseeing if you can. If you're in the mood for more European fun, consider popping over to the Basque Country for some of the best food in the world or down to Sardinia for one beachy good time. behold "This is a city of shifting light, of changing skies, of sudden vistas. A city so beautiful it breaks the heart again and again.” - Alexander McCall Smith on Edinburgh FAST FACTS Fast facts Just for Fun Hurling is considered the fastest field sport in the world and the sliothar (ball) can travel 120km/hour! 10 million pints of Guinness are produced in Dublin every day! Scotland has the highest proportion of red heads in the world. Trip notes While we can’t guarantee private rooms, you sho uld book your trip earlier if you prefer one, as they usually fill up. The weather in Ireland and Scotland can be unpredictable, so make sure you pack some warm clothes and a rain jacket. Pub culture is a big part of life in Ireland and Scotland, but you’ll never feel pressured to drink if you don’t want to. There are always non-alcoholic choices. Ireland uses the Euro while Scotland is on the Pound sterling. SEE DATES & BOOK LEARN MORE About Ireland & Scotland Ireland & Scotland are known for their breathtaking natural beauty, fun and welcoming environments and fascinating histories. Both countries are home to some of the most photogenic places on earth. The Irish diaspora is an incredible thing. More than 80 million people worldwide claim some Irish heritage, while the country itself only has a population of 6 million. Scotland’s population comes in just a hair lower at 5.5 million, a figure overshadowed by the local sheep population by more than a million. Good to know Ireland’s official languages are Irish and English while Scotland’s is English. Accents in both countries can take quite a bit of getting used to. Ireland uses the Euro while Scotland is on the Pound sterling. Irish surnames that start in “Mac” mean “son of” while those that start in “O” mean “grandson of.” Weather (especially on the Atlantic coast) can be predictably unpredictable, so make sure to pack a waterproof jacket and some warm clothes. Though it rains a lot, it's also windy, so not many people carry around umbrellas. You are welcome to bring one, but a good jacket and covers for your backpack or luggage might be more practical. flights Flights Fly into Edinburgh (EDI) You'll need to be in Edinburgh Airport by 12pm and be at the hotel at 2:30pm on Day 1; however, we do recommend flying in earlier to have some time to explore the city on your own! Fly out of Dublin (DUB) We recommend flying out of Dublin on the last day of your trip. Want to check out flights for your trip? First stop, Budapest—a city where you can soak away your worries in thermal baths and then sip craft cocktails in ruin bars while deciding if you want goulash or langos for a midnight snack. We’ll cruise the Danube and explore the countryside before making our way to Austria for a taste of Vienna’s opulence: classical tunes in Mozart’s hometown and the Habsburg high life. Eventually, we’ll wind up on Prague’s cobbled streets to wrap things up in storybook fashion. After crisscrossing the Old Town, throw down a few pilsners with the locals and cheers to one epic adventure. For culture trippers, this is a cross-continental adventure into the heart of Europe and an immersive experience through three of the region’s most exciting countries. 2024 2025 8 days/7 nights starting at $3,299 USD Limited single room upgrades starting from $659 are available and can be added during booking, subject to availability. From there, we’re off to the lively old streets of the Jewish Quarter for our welcome dinner and your first taste of Hungarian cooking. After a bite, head out for a nightcap (extra points if you try a shot of pálinka, a local fruit brandy guaranteed to give you a warm Hungarian welcome), or take a romantic stroll along the Danube as you wander back to the hotel. Wander Day 2 - Budapest Crosstown Cuisine After catching up with the crew, we’re off to see Budapest and all her beauty on a walking tour. We’ll check out everything from the bell towers of St. Stephen’s Basilica to Fisherman’s Bastion and the Medieval architecture of the Castle Quarter. You’ll need a bite after all that, so up next, it’s time for a cooking class led by a rockstar local chef to whip up Hungarian specialties like chilled soups and sweet desserts. The afternoon’s free, but as this is the City of Baths, it’s only fitting that you head to Széchenyi for a soak. Round out the day in romantic fashion with a Danube River cruise for golden views of the historic skyline before we head toward Budapest’s famous ruin bars to check out the graffitied grit that sets this capital apart (think dive bars taken to a whole new level). marvel Day 3 - Budapest wine Country Today, we’re heading out of the city and journeying through Hungary’s small towns for a deep cut of the country. Get things started in the land of Counts and Barons as we take a private tour of the massive 19th-century Károlyi Castle and its grounds. We’ll grab a bite after exploring the lifestyles of the rich and famous, and then it’s time for a few glasses of Hungarian wine at a nearby family-run vineyard. Cheers to our last day in Budapest, or as the Hungarians say, Egészségedre (no worries if you botch that one). You’ll get back to the hustle and bustle that evening, where your night is free. If you didn’t figure it out yesterday, Budapest hits a whole new level when the sun sets. Hit up a jazz club with the crew or roam back to more of those eclectic ruin bars. indulge Day 4 - Budapest & Vienna A Moment for Mozart After a leisurely morning in Budapest, we’re heading west to Vienna for Mozart, Wienerschnitzel, and the second leg of our central European excursion. Try your first Sachertorte (Austria’s delicious chocolate cake) and stroll the romantic old streets for an experience that is oh-so opulent. With almost theatrically ornate Baroque buildings everywhere you look, Vienna’s the suave, sophisticated big brother of our capital trio: this is where Freud pontificated, Beethoven composed, and the FTLO crew hits high class. This is also the City of Music, home to the greats of 18th and 19th-century classical tunes. So, after meeting up with everyone for a pre-show dinner, we’ll head to one of the city’s oldest concert halls for a bit of Mozart magic performed by an incredible orchestral ensemble. Appreciate Day 5 - Vienna Kings and Queens Now that you’ve reached high society, it’s time to step back in time. Today, we’re heading to Schönbrunn Palace—a marvel of European grandeur—to immerse ourselves in the lavish fairytale lifestyle of a bygone era. Originally a 17th-century hunting lodge for the Habsburgs, this giant Baroque estate (a UNESCO site) is the pinnacle of old-school wealth. Explore historic, luxurious rooms filled with priceless works of art and act like you belong in the Great Gallery or the amazing Blue Chinese Salon. After mingling with the royal palace upper crust, we’ll need to recharge, so we’ll kick it local with your first Wienerschnitzel at a traditional Austrian tavern. The afternoon and evening are free to roam; take a spin on the world’s oldest ferris wheel at Prater Park or check out the scene at Rathausplatz. connect Day 6 - Vienna & Prague Czech it Out After a bite at the hotel, we’re heading west on the rails past dense forests and meandering rivers en route to what may be the most picturesque city on the whole continent. Between the red-tiled roofs, Gothic cathedrals, and Renaissance Palaces, the Czech capital is unfairly, almost unrealistically, spectacular. Grab a hometown pilsner at one of the leafy green beer gardens before you meet up with a local for a tour of the town. With our expert guide, you’ll eat and drink like the Czechs, marvel at the Old Town’s 15th-century astronomical clock, and twist through a labyrinth of secret Castle District streets way beyond the tourists. Prague’s home to some of the finest beer in the world, so cap off the evening prowling for pints through cozy streets with the crew. learn Fast facts “To travel by train is to see nature and human beings, towns and churches, and rivers, in fact, to see life.” - Agatha Christie FAST FACTS Day 7 - Prague Beer Bath After laughing off a late night and soaking up one too many drinks with a hearty breakfast, we’ll get right back to what Prague does best: beer! However, today’s a special day, so we won’t just be drinking a pint or two; we’ll be bathing in it. Yup, join the rest of the crew for a unique Czech experience—unwind in a tub of suds (there’s a wine option, too!), and let the beer bath soothe your senses. You’ll even follow it up with a salt cave session to rejuvenate your soul. Your afternoon’s free, so after that boozy therapy, take a stroll along the Vltava River or dive into Czech history at the National Museum. That night, we’re all meeting up for a delicious farewell dinner at one of our favorite spots to round out an amazing week. soak Day 8 - Prague Eurotripped Three countries, three capitals, one epic adventure! In just eight days, you’ll have crossed Central Europe with a crew of new friends and, in doing so, traveled over 500 kilometers by train. You’ve explored hidden old town streets, marveled at grand palaces, and soaked up Mozart’s finest tunes. If you’ve got more time to spare in Prague, cross the Charles Bridge once more for some final views of one of our favorite romantic European capitals. Or, if you’ve got even more time to travel, consider a trip to Portugal for some more culture or a fast-paced outdoor experience in Iceland! Just for fun King Stephen I of Hungary was so important that his mummified right hand is kept in St. Stephen’s Basilica! Visit Vienna for croissants. The delectable breakfast treat actually originated in Austria, not France. On average, Czechs drink more than 180 liters of beer per person each year. That’s the most in the world! Taste Day 2 - Golden Circle/Reykholt Golden View After a bit of rest (hopefully); today, we're leaving the capital to check out the world-famous Golden Circle. From Thingvellir to Gullfoss and Geysir, it’s hard not to feel tiny compared to these endless landscapes. Kick off the day walking through Viking hillsides where rocky canyons, split by drifting tectonic plates, cut through the country. From there, we'll grab lunch together at a family-owned greenhouse and learn how the locals live off the land. We’ll continue along the route to marvel at steaming geysers shooting a hundred feet up, tiered waterfalls crashing down, and raw landscapes torn open by thousands of years of earthquakes that'll leave you speechless. End the day at a group dinner, where almost every item on the entire menu is made from scratch. gallop Day 3 - Selfoss Majestic Manes Get an early bite in before we roll on toward the lava fields and open country of Selfoss. After learning about Iceland's stocky brand of horse, hop in the saddle and ride out across mossy hillsides before we set out on foot to chase waterfalls. With unreal vast viewpoints all along the way, you'll probably feel like you've been dropped into a scene straight out of Game of Thrones; after all, the show used Iceland for many of its locations! We'll stop for lunch at one of the oldest food halls in town, and then the rest of the day is yours to explore freely. Wander around Selfoss or unwind in the town's geothermal pool. trek Day 4 - Reykjavik Lava & Lagoons Today, we're heading underground for a whole new view of Iceland as we explore the inner workings of a lava tube. After leaving Selfoss, we'll hike through an almost mile-long tunnel of basaltic rock, an otherworldly geological wonder sculpted by the lava flow of a 5,000-year-old eruption. We'll need some Icelandic sun after our subterranean journey, so up next, head to Reykjavik's sizzling Sky Lagoon for the most relaxing swim on the island. Rejuvenating springs, spas, and thermal pools are social hubs in Iceland that reflect the harmony between the people and the geothermal resources; this one, with its rocky grottos and deep-blue infinity pool, heats up to over 100 degrees! The afternoon's free for you to check out some of the capital's cool street art before we all meet up for an Icelandic farewell dinner. Explore Day 5 - Reykjavik End of an Adventure Summer in Iceland is a treat of epic nature lit up by endless sun. The country is alive with wildlife, wildflowers, and the most mild weather you’ll see all year. After saying your goodbyes, head to the airport and start planning your next adventure. On the other hand, if you've got more time to explore, consider heading out to Iceland's less visited east, try whale watching off the south coast, or hop a flight to mainland Europe for some Croatian beach fun (Pro tip: check out Iceland's stopover program for amazing flight deals). Thanks for coming along to soak up the North Atlantic sun. That's a wrap! Here, where the wind writes poems on the waves, and the rocks whisper ancient sagas, lies Iceland, a land spun from fire and ice, forever etched in the memory of the world. - Bárður Snæbjörnsson Fast facts FAST FACTS Just for fun Iceland is home to the world’s oldest parliament, Alþingi. It was founded in 930! Icelanders traditionally do not have surnames, instead they derive their last names from their father's or mother's first names. Icelandic horses have a unique thick double coat that helps them withstand harsh Icelandic weather conditions. Trip notes While we can't guarantee private rooms when visiting Iceland, you should book your trip earlier if you prefer one, as they usually fill up. Iceland is a small country, but the weather can change fast year round, so be prepared with your wardrobe. On European trips, we stay as close to historic city centers as possible. This means your accommodations will often be on the small side, quirky, and unique (we love this!). Bring a sleep mask when you visit Iceland in the summer months; the sun sets incredibly late (and sometimes not even at all). Ensure your passport is valid for 3 months after your return date. All activities are weather-dependent; in the unlikely event that we are unable to run an activity, we will have a suitable alternative in place. More information regarding visa requirements and Covid restrictions can be found here . SEE DATES & BOOK LEARN MORE about iceland Iceland in summer (particularly around the summer solstice) experiences nearly 24-hour daylight due to the midnight sun phenomenon. With average temperatures ranging from 50°F to 59°F (10°-15°C), the season offers extended daylight hours for exploration. The landscape, characterized by lava fields, glaciers, geysers, and waterfalls, provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, glacier tours, and sightseeing. Good to Know Iceland’s official currency is the Icelandic Krona. The country ranks number 1 on the Global Peace Index. The country’s national language is Icelandic. Flights Fly into Keflavik International Airport (KEF) You'll need to be in Reykjavik by 1:30pm on Day 1; however, we recommend planning to arrive a day early just to be safe. If you take a flight that arrives in the morning, check out the Blue Lagoon on your way to Reykjavik (reservations required). Fly out of Keflavik International Airport (KEF) Fly out of Reykjavik at any time on day 5. We recommend a later flight so you can enjoy a bit more exploring before heading back home. Try a Fernet and Coke (a local favorite) or a glass of Malbec from nearby Mendoza. discover Day 5 - Buenos Aires, Argentina two to tango With 19th-century European architecture, vintage cafes buzzing with animated conversations, and cosmopolitan restaurants, Buenos Aires requires more than a little exploration, so today, we're hitting the streets in search of everything the city has to offer. We’ll kick things off in swanky Recoleta to check out chic boutiques and massive monuments of Argentina’s rich and famous. From there, we'll head to historic Plaza de Mayo, a pivotal site in Argentina's independence struggle, wind through the colorful, Maradona-mad neighborhood of La Boca, and explore the contemporary innovations and waterside charms of Puerto Madero. Connect to the city’s culinary history over a bite in the stalls of San Telmo's 19th-century market before we get up close and personal with Argentina's top talent. It's tango time! Get those feet moving in our group class and groove to the country’s most famous dance before we round out the day with dinner, wine, and a show. dance Day 6 - Buenos Aires, Argentina polo day The British may have brought polo to the nation’s grasslands, but it was Argentinian gauchos who adopted it and made it their own. So, today, we're heading just outside the city for wine, empanadas, and an introduction to the exciting elegance of it all. We'll get things started with a deep dive into the sport, its history, and the beautiful horses who make it all happen, and then, we’ll grab our seats and watch a match. After the high-energy thrills, grab a late asado lunch—local grilled meats and plenty of Argentinian wine—before you hop in the saddle yourself. With a professional at your side, you’ll learn how to play like the pros and then have a mini-match of your own. By mid-afternoon, you should be ready for a glass of Malbec or two, so find a seat at one of the trendy wine bars in Palermo and then wander through the neighborhood’s eclectic boutiques blending contemporary designs with traditional craftsmanship. That night, we'll all meet up for one final Argentinian family style meal, more than a few laughs, and a celebratory toast to our time in one of the southern hemisphere's best spots. celebrate Day 8 - Buenos Aires, Argentina adiós amigos Find your friends for a final breakfast at the hotel before saying adiós . If you've got more time to travel, well, you are most certainly in luck. Argentina is gigantic, and you could spend months exploring (we really mean that; our team has literally spent months crisscrossing the country). If you're looking for more of that tasty red, head to Mendoza and visit the incredible vineyards that surround the city. If it's Patagonia you're looking for, hop on a flight to the mountains of Bariloche and start winding south to el Calafate and Torres del Paine. On the other hand, if you're looking for natural wonders hidden in the jungle, head north and hike to mind-blowing Iguazu Falls. In Argentina, there's always more to see. Happy travels! Just for fun When Messi and the Argentine national team won the World Cup in 2022, the country declared a national holiday to celebrate. Tango was born in Buenos Aires in the late 19th century. Perito Moreno Glacier is one of the only glaciers in the world that is still advancing. It can affect anyone, regardless of age or fitness level, and its severity varies from person to person. When traveling to high altitude destinations in Argentina, it's essential to listen to your body and prioritize your health and safety above all else.
