Day 1 – Tangier
Welcome to Morocco
Check into your hotel nestled in Old Havana and grab a drink with your travel crew.
In the afternoon, we’ll head out on a walking tour where you’ll get your first taste of architecture so significant it earned a spot on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Continue on and give a mojito a go—the local favorite and Cuban national drink has been a staple on these lively shores for centuries.
That night, we’ll all head out together to grab some dinner and check out local live music in one of the neighborhood's trendiest spots.

Trip Notes
Read through helpful flight details, trip notes and details about our Morocco Trip.
Arrive
Fly into Tangier (TNG)
You'll need to be in Tangier by 2 PM on Day 1. We do recommend flying in earlier to have some time to explore the city on your own! Feel free to book roundtrip tickets to an international hub and then book cheaper regional flights.
Depart
Fly out of Marrakech (RAK)
We recommend flying out of Marrakech or extending your trip and enjoying a few more days in Morocco.
Passport Requirements
You’ll need a passport with at least one blank page and must be valid for six months after your stay. We recommend having nine months of validity beyond your trip dates, just to be safe.
New Experiences
Morocco is a stunning and culturally rich destination, but it’s also a developing country that may challenge your comfort zone – in the best way. Expect an experience that’s very different from traveling in Europe, with moments that may feel unfamiliar but ultimately rewarding.
Cultural Etiquette
Morocco is a Muslim country, and travelers are expected to observe local customs out of respect for the culture. This includes modest dress for all genders as well as no public alcohol consumption. Being mindful of these customs will help you connect more meaningfully with the local culture and community.
Accommodations
This trip includes one night of glamping in a remote, scenic location. It’s a chance to disconnect and enjoy the natural surroundings – no running water or Wi-Fi is available during this portion of the trip. Embrace the adventure and come prepared for a comfortable, off-the-grid experience.
Long Drives
On this trip, you’ll cover a lot of ground, with several long drives — especially on winding roads as we make our way to the desert. While the journeys can be lengthy, they’re incredibly scenic, and the destinations are absolutely worth it.
Packing List
Morocco is a conservative country, so it’s important to dress modestly when visiting religious sites or rural areas. We recommend wearing long pants and sleeves in breathable fabrics and light layers to stay cool in the desert sun.
Dietary Restrictions
Moroccan cuisine includes plenty of vegetarian options, but if you have stricter restrictions (like vegan or gluten-free), let us know in advance and bring personal snacks for long drives or rural areas.
Itinerary Changes
This itinerary is subject to change based on the weather conditions and traveler feedback. In the unlikely event that we are unable to run a specific activity, we will have a suitable alternative in place.
Let's Get Social
#ftlomorocco in the wild
How much should I budget for meals and extras?
+
-
Morocco is full of flavorful, affordable food – from fresh bread and tagines to street-side pastries and fruit juices. You won’t need to spend much to eat well, especially in local spots and markets.
We recommend budgeting around $175 for meals and personal expenses not included in the itinerary, depending on your consumption habits.
I have dietary restrictions. Will there be options for me?
+
-
Moroccan cuisine is flavorful and diverse, but navigating dietary restrictions may require some planning.
Vegetarian: While Morocco offers a variety of vegetable-based dishes (like tagines, couscous, lentil stews, and salads), many meals are meat-centric, and vegetable sides may be cooked in meat-based broths. Vegan options are more limited, especially in rural areas.
Gluten-Free: Traditional Moroccan staples like rice, lentils, and grilled meats are naturally gluten-free, but bread is served with nearly every meal, and cross-contamination is common.
Nut/Allergy Concerns: Nuts, seeds, and dried fruits are common in Moroccan cooking, particularly in sauces, pastries, and tagines.
Your trip leader will do their best to help you navigate meals, but if you have strict dietary needs, we recommend bringing some backup snacks and researching common dishes ahead of time.
What are the accommodations like?
+
-
You’ll stay in a variety of locally run hotels and riads, each with its own style and charm. Rooms are shared unless you book a private upgrade early.
One night is spent glamping in the Sahara, where you’ll sleep in canvas tents under the stars. While there’s no Wi-Fi, running water, or refrigeration in the camp, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience filled with candlelight, music, and quiet desert skies.
What should I pack for Morocco?
+
-
Morocco is warm and sunny during the day with cooler evenings, especially in the desert. Pack light layers, comfortable walking shoes, and modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees for visits to religious or traditional sites. You’ll also want sunscreen, a hat, a scarf or bandana for the desert wind, and one nicer outfit for rooftop dinners or the cooking class. For the glamping night in the Sahara, bring cozy layers and anything you’ll need for an overnight without Wi-Fi or running water.
Any recommendations if I'd like to extend my time abroad?
+
-
When’s the best time to go to Morocco?
+
-
We run this trip when Morocco’s weather is ideal for sightseeing – warm days and cooler nights, especially in the mountains and desert.
Expect sunshine, dry air, and a comfortable climate for walking, day trips, and evening rooftop dinners.
When should I arrive and depart, and how do I get to the hotel?
+
-
Plan to arrive at Tangier Ibn Battuta Airport (TNG) by 2 PM on Day 1 to make it to the hotel and our welcome activities. From the airport, you can take a licensed taxi, arrange a hotel pickup, or use a local rideshare app.
On Day 9, you’ll depart from Marrakesh Menara Airport (RAK) – you’re free to fly out anytime that day after checkout.
What’s the pace of the itinerary?
+
-
You’ll cover a lot of ground, moving from the blue-washed streets of Chefchaouen to camel rides in the desert and finally to Marrakesh.
It’s a dynamic itinerary with early mornings, full-day excursions, and long scenic drives – but always balanced with long meals, local markets, and sunset downtime. Expect an enriching, full-bodied travel experience.
What’s the vibe of this trip?
+
-
This trip blends rich cultural discovery with immersive local flavor. You’ll explore ancient cities, sip mint tea in the Sahara, and share slow meals that turn into long conversations.
The group vibe is welcoming and curious – ideal for travelers who want a meaningful taste of Morocco through its history, food, and everyday rhythms.
