This is the kind of place best experienced with new friends, especially fellow solo travelers in their 20s and 30s. There’s always something happening, from the buzzing nightlife in the capital to the laid-back beach life in the south.
Our small group trip to Portugal goes beyond the must-sees, giving you a deeper look at the country’s many sides—Lisbon’s charm, stunning coastal escapes, rugged mountain landscapes, and the slower, quieter corners that make this place truly special.

Day 1 - Lisbon
Landed in Lisbon
Check into your hotel nestled in Old Havana and grab a drink with your travel crew.
In the afternoon, we’ll head out on a walking tour where you’ll get your first taste of architecture so significant it earned a spot on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Continue on and give a mojito a go—the local favorite and Cuban national drink has been a staple on these lively shores for centuries.
That night, we’ll all head out together to grab some dinner and check out local live music in one of the neighborhood's trendiest spots.

Trip Notes
Read through helpful flight details, trip notes and details about our Portugal Trip.
Arrive
Fly into Lisbon (LIS)
You'll need to be in Lisbon by 2 PM on Day 1. We do recommend flying in earlier to have some time to explore the city on your own!
Depart
Fly out of Faro (FAO)
Fly out of Faro at any time on Day 8 or extend your trip and enjoy a few more days in the Algarve.
Pro tip: a lot of travelers will buy round trips from Lisbon and take a local bus or train at the end of the trip back up to Lisbon. Make sure to book a flight later in the day if you go this route to give yourself enough time.
Passport Requirements
You’ll need a passport with at least two blank pages and valid for at least three months after your planned departure. We recommend having six months of validity beyond your trip dates, just to be safe.
Accommodations
We stay in small, stylish hotels and guesthouses that reflect the charm of each stop. Rooms may be cozy but are well-located, comfortable, and a great place to unwind after a day of exploring.
Packing List
Portugal can get quite hot in the summer, so be sure to pack light, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen. Layering is also key for cooler mornings or breezy evenings.
Getting Around
The Alfama district is full of charm and winding, narrow streets that can feel like a real maze. If you ever find yourself lost, just head downhill toward the water and reorient from there.
Accessibility
Some areas, like Lisbon, have hills, cobblestones, and stairs that may be tough for travelers with mobility concerns. Please reach out before booking if you have questions about accessibility.
Weather
Early summer brings warm days and cooler evenings. Mid-summer (July–Aug) is hottest, with highs in the 80s °F and very little rain. Late season (Sept–early Oct) stays warm, sea temperatures are comfortable and evenings may start to cool.
Delays
In Portugal, long, leisurely lunches are a beloved tradition, and that laid-back pace often carries over into daily life. It’s not unusual for schedules to shift or things to run a bit behind, so embrace the slower rhythm and enjoy the experience like a local.
Dietary Restrictions
Portugal offers vegetarian and gluten-free options, however travelers may want to pack a few snacks just in case. Let us know any restrictions in advance so we can help you navigate meals smoothly.
Itinerary Changes
This itinerary is subject to change based on the weather conditions and traveler feedback. In the unlikely event that we are unable to run a specific activity, we will have a suitable alternative in place.
Private Room Upgrades
Private room upgrades are available for an additional amount and can be added during booking. These are available on a first come basis so plan to book in advance if you are interested in your own room.
Let's Get Social
#ftloportugal in the wild
What’s the vibe of this trip?
+
-
This trip is a great fit for first-time solo travelers who want a relaxed but meaningful way to explore Portugal.
Expect a welcoming crew, laid-back coastal towns, vibrant food culture, and activities that bring the group together – from cooking classes to slow mornings by the water. The energy is friendly, fun, and open to new experiences.
What’s the pace of the itinerary?
+
-
The pace is steady and social – with daily activities like market visits, wine tastings, a Jeep tour, and a private sailing day.
Most outings are half-day or flexible, giving you space to chill at the beach, stroll old towns, or say yes to optional add-ons like a Fado show. It’s a solid mix of structure and free time.
I have dietary restrictions. Will there be options for me?
+
-
Yes! Just let us know your needs after you sign up, and we’ll coordinate with local partners. Portugal’s food scene offers a good variety for vegetarians and gluten-free travelers, though vegans may want to pack a few backup snacks. Your guide can help you navigate menus during tastings or group meals.
What are the accommodations like?
+
-
We stay in small, stylish hotels and guesthouses that reflect the charm of each stop, whether that’s a central Lisbon neighborhood or a quiet spot near the coast. Rooms may be cozy but are well-located, comfortable, and a great place to unwind after a day of exploring.
When’s the best time to go to Portugal?
+
-
We run this trip in summer, when Portugal is at its liveliest. Expect sunny skies, hot afternoons, and ideal weather for sailing and beach days. Lightweight clothing and hydration are key, and there’s no better time to enjoy Portugal’s coastal pace.
When should I arrive and depart, and how do I get to the hotel?
+
-
Plan to arrive at Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS) by 2:00 PM on Day 1 to make it to our welcome dinner and kickoff activities. From the airport, you can take the Lisbon Metro, a taxi, or book a ride through Uber or Bolt — all are reliable and easy to use.
The trip ends on Day 8 in Lagos, and you’re free to fly out anytime that day. Taxis and hotel-arranged transfers to Faro Airport (FAO) are widely available, and there’s a local bus as well.
What should I pack for Portugal?
+
-
Portugal in the summer is hot and sunny, especially in Lisbon and the Alentejo region. Pack lightweight clothes, sunscreen, a swimsuit for the sailing day, and comfortable walking shoes for cobblestone streets and day trips. A scarf or modest layer comes in handy for churches or traditional settings, and you’ll want one outfit you feel great in for group dinners or a night out with the crew.
How much should I budget for meals and extras?
+
-
Portugal is known for its high-quality, affordable food – you can enjoy seafood, snacks, and a glass of wine without spending much. Some of the most memorable meals might come from simple cafés or sunset aperitifs by the water.
We recommend budgeting around $200 for meals and personal expenses not included in the itinerary, depending on your consumption habits.
Any recommendations if I'd like to extend my time abroad?
+
-
It’s easy to keep exploring nearby regions, as Barcelona is one of Europe’s major air hubs, especially for southern and western Europe. You can fly east to Amalfi Coast & Puglia or north to Copenhagen, Stockholm & Oslo, both just a few hours away by air. You could also travel a short distance across the Iberian Peninsula to Barcelona & the South of France for more Mediterranean cities and coastal scenery.
