The Sardinia Trip

Beachy • Foodie • Cultural

For the love of hidden coves, delicious cuisine, and historic ruins — add authentic island culture, sun-drenched beaches, turquoise waters. That’s our Sardinia trip.

Welcome to Sardinia, Italy!

8 Days / 7 Nights

Starting At $4,299

Up To 11

Picture this: mornings in charming cafés with a frothy cappuccino, afternoons wandering through vibrant markets brimming with fresh seafood and produce, and evenings sailing past rugged coastlines as the sun melts into the Mediterranean. Welcome to Sardinia, a dreamy Italian island where time slows down and every moment feels effortlessly magical.

We’ve designed this eight-day Sardinia group tour for solo travelers in their 20s and 30s who’ve fallen in love with mainland Italy and are ready to discover more. With its powder-soft white sand beaches, hidden coves, and impossibly turquoise waters, Sardinia feels like Italy’s best-kept secret.

Now, you might be wondering why we’re dedicating an entire trip to just one island. Well, there’s a lot to sea (and see!), and Sardinia isn’t the kind of place you rush through. From rugged coastal hikes to chic seaside villages, from ancient ruins to laid-back beach clubs, this island deserves your full attention.

Day 1 - Cagliari

Benvenuti!

Check into your hotel nestled in Old Havana and grab a drink with your travel crew.

In the afternoon, we’ll head out on a walking tour where you’ll get your first taste of architecture so significant it earned a spot on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Continue on and give a mojito a go—the local favorite and Cuban national drink has been a staple on these lively shores for centuries.

That night, we’ll all head out together to grab some dinner and check out local live music in one of the neighborhood's trendiest spots.

Trip Notes

Arrive

Fly into Cagliari (CAG)

You'll need to be in Cagliari by 3 PM on Day 1. We do recommend flying in earlier to have some time to explore the city on your own! We advise booking round-trip flights from Milan or Rome and then booking a separate flight to Cagliari.

Depart

Fly out of Alghero (AHO)

We recommend flying out of Alghero to either Milan or Rome or extending your trip and enjoying a few more days in Italy.

Passport Requirements

You’ll need a passport with at least two blank pages and valid for at least three months after your planned departure. We recommend having six months of validity beyond your trip dates, just to be safe.

Visas

Visas are not required for U.S. travelers for stays of 90 days or less (within a 180-day period).

Accommodations

Hotels in Sardinia tend to be more traditional and authentically Italian, rather than the boutique-style properties found on some of our other trips. Rooms are well-located and full of regional charm, giving you a true sense of place.

Weather

Sardinia’s summer season brings hot days, warm nights, and plenty of sun. The sea is calm and clear, perfect for swimming or sailing. Lightweight clothing, sun protection, and a swimsuit are musts.

Itinerary Changes

This itinerary is subject to change based on the weather conditions and traveler feedback. In the unlikely event that we are unable to run a specific activity, we will have a suitable alternative in place.

Dietary Restrictions

Italy offers lots of fresh produce, pasta varieties, and vegetarian-friendly and gluten-free options. Let us know any restrictions in advance so we can help you navigate meals smoothly.

Private Room Upgrades

Private room upgrades are available for an additional amount and can be added during booking. These are available on a first come basis so plan to book in advance if you are interested in your own room.

Let's Get Social

#ftlosardinia in the wild

What’s the vibe of this trip?

+

-

This trip blends relaxed beach energy with deep dives into local food and culture. Think sun-drenched days cruising the coast, sipping wine at vineyards, and learning pasta techniques passed down through generations.

It’s ideal for travelers who love swimming, snacking, and exploring with a small, fun-loving crew.

What’s the pace of the itinerary?

+

-

The itinerary is laid-back with plenty of movement – expect boat days and cultural excursions mixed with long lunches and scenic downtime. The pace picks up slightly with things like a pasta class and olive farm visit, but there’s also space to relax or swim.

I have dietary restrictions. Will there be options for me?

+

-

Yes! We can usually accommodate vegetarians, vegans, and other dietary needs – just let us know after you book.

Sardinian cuisine is rooted in fresh, seasonal ingredients, so your guide can help you navigate menus during meals and tastings. That said, if you have very specific needs, packing a few snacks is never a bad idea.

What are the accommodations like?

+

-

We stay in charming, locally-run hotels that reflect the coastal character of Sardinia. They’re usually small and walkable to town – the kind of places that feel full of personality. Rooms may be on the cozy side, but they’re comfortable and great for relaxing after a day of swimming or exploring.

When’s the best time to go to Sardinia?

+

-

We run this trip during Sardinia’s long, sunny summer season, when warm temps and swimmable waters make it ideal for sailing, beach time, and dining al fresco. Expect hot days, mild evenings, and a little rain later in the season – perfect for a Mediterranean escape.

When should I arrive and depart, and how do I get to the hotel?

+

-

Plan to arrive at Cagliari Elmas Airport (CAG) by 3:00 PM on Day 1 so you have enough time to reach the hotel and settle in before our welcome dinner. From the airport, it’s easy to grab a licensed taxi or arrange a hotel pickup – both are reliable.

The trip ends in Alghero, and you're free to fly out from Alghero Airport (AHO) anytime on the final day. FTLO recommends booking round-trip flights to Rome or Milan, with regional flights connecting you to Cagliari and home from Alghero.

What should I pack for Sardinia?

+

-

Pack for sun, sea, and strolling. Bring lightweight, breathable clothing, comfortable sandals or walking shoes, a swimsuit, and plenty of sunscreen. You might also want a nicer outfit for dinners or wine tastings.

How much should I budget for meals and extras?

+

-

Sardinia is full of small local restaurants and seaside cafés, and it’s easy to eat well at a reasonable price. Many group meals are already included, so much of your budget will go toward casual bites and extras.

We recommend budgeting around $250 for meals and personal expenses not included in the itinerary, depending on your consumption habits.
