Welcome to Iceland Winter!
5 Days / 4 Nights
Starting At $3,599

Welcome to our wildest adventure yet. There’s outdoor fun, and then there’s outdoor fun Icelandic style. If you’re up for lounging in hot springs, conquering snow-covered lava fields, and trekking along volcanic beaches, head north with us for the ultimate winter adventure.
First stop, Reykjavik—from colorful homes to street art, and oddly endearing hardcore metal shows, it’s a city full of surprises. It’s also the only place we know of with both fermented shark and world-renowned hot dogs on the menu.
After exploring the capital, we’ll head south to wander iceberg-studded, obsidian beaches ripped from the pages of fantasy novels. So come along and slug down some Brennivin beneath the northern lights, find your footing in the mist of cascading falls, and reach out to blue ceilings of frozen rolling waves in glacial ice caves with other solo travelers on our Iceland tours for young adults.

Trip Notes

Arrive
Fly into Reykjavik (KEF)
You’ll need to be at Reykjavik Airport by 11 AM on Day 1 and at the hotel by 1 PM. However, we recommend arriving earlier to have some time to explore the city on your own! If you take a flight that arrives in the morning, check out the Blue Lagoon on your way to Reykjavik (reservations required).
Depart
Fly out of Reykjavik (KEF)
Fly out of Reykjavik at any time on Day 5. We recommend a later flight so you can enjoy a bit more exploring before heading back home.
Passport Requirements
Bring a passport with two blank pages, valid for at least three months past your Schengen departure. We suggest six months’ validity to be safe.
Accommodations
Accommodations reflect Iceland’s minimalist design, with rooms that may be compact and offer fewer amenities but provide warmth and comfort. Many are near natural sights or nestled in quiet towns—perfect for cozying up after a snowy adventure.
Packing List
Pack warm layers you can stack, including waterproof outerwear, sturdy shoes, gloves, a hat, and thermal accessories. A sleep mask and swimsuit may also come in handy.
Long Drives
Expect a few long drives (up to 5 hours), broken up with scenic stops and sights. Sit back and enjoy Iceland’s dramatic winter landscapes.
Itinerary Changes
Winter weather can affect access to certain sites, but we’ll have great backup options. Northern lights sightings are likely, but not guaranteed due to conditions and solar activity.
Dietary Restrictions
Icelandic food features seafood, lamb, and dairy. Veggie, vegan, and gluten-free options are common in Reykjavik but limited in rural areas. Let us know your needs early so we can help where possible.
Weather
Icelandic winters range from 25–35°F (-4 to 2°C). Expect snow, wind, and 4–6 hours of daylight. Dress in layers and get ready for a dramatic, cozy winter escape.
Private Room Upgrades
Private room upgrades are available for an additional amount and can be added during booking. These are available on a first come basis so plan to book in advance if you are interested in your own room.

When should I arrive and depart, and how do I get to the hotel?
+
-
Plan to arrive at Reykjavik's Keflavík International Airport (KEF) by 11:00 AM on Day 1 so you can reach the hotel by 1:00 PM for the start of group activities. From the airport, it’s easy to grab a Flybus, Airport Direct shuttle, or a taxi to the city center.
The trip wraps up on Day 5, and you’re free to depart anytime – though we recommend an afternoon or evening flight if you want more time to explore Reykjavik that morning.
What should I pack?
+
-
Winter in Iceland means cold, shifting weather and jaw-dropping landscapes. Pack warm layers you can stack, including thermal clothing, a waterproof winter jacket and pants, and sturdy, insulated boots for walking on icy paths. You’ll want gloves, a hat, and thick socks for glacier stops and ice cave hikes. Also bring a swimsuit for the Sky Lagoon and a daypack for excursions. Staying warm and dry will make all the difference.
What’s the vibe of this trip?
+
-
This trip is a great fit for solo travelers looking for a little adventure and a lot of natural beauty. You’ll bond with the group as you chase waterfalls, explore glacier caves, and take in sweeping Arctic views. It’s active and awe-inspiring, but still cozy – with plenty of group meals, spa time, and winter magic along the way.
What’s the pace of the itinerary?
+
-
Expect a few early mornings, full sightseeing days, and scenic road trips across Iceland’s south coast. There’s lots of time spent outdoors, but nothing too strenuous — most activities are beginner-friendly and run at a comfortable group pace. Nights are quieter, with chances to spot the northern lights or relax at the hotel.
How much should I budget for meals and extras?
+
-
Iceland can be pricey, but the food scene is solid with quality ingredients – think lamb, seafood, and hearty stews, plus cozy cafés and bakeries in Reykjavik.
We recommending planning to spend around $200 USD, depending on your personal consumption habits.
I have dietary restrictions. Will there be options for me?
+
-
Yes, we can usually accommodate most dietary needs. Iceland’s restaurants are well-versed in allergies and restrictions, especially in Reykjavik. If you’re vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free, just let us know after booking so we can coordinate where possible. For remote stops or road days, having your own snacks is always a smart idea.
What are the accommodations like?
+
-
You’ll stay in a mix of comfortable, well-located hotels, with a cozy countryside stop for northern lights viewing. Rooms are shared unless you book a private upgrade, and while they may be on the smaller side (common in Iceland), they’re clean, warm, and perfectly situated for our winter adventures.
When’s the best time to go?
+
-
We run this trip during Iceland’s winter season, when the northern lights are most visible (though not guaranteed) and the landscape turns into a snowy dream.
Expect cold temperatures ranging from 25°F (-4°C) to 35°F (1.5°C), short daylight hours, and dramatic skies – perfect for a scenic, small-group escape with just the right amount of adventure.
