Day 1 – Florence

Oh Firenze!

Check into your hotel nestled in Old Havana and grab a drink with your travel crew.

In the afternoon, we’ll head out on a walking tour where you’ll get your first taste of architecture so significant it earned a spot on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Continue on and give a mojito a go—the local favorite and Cuban national drink has been a staple on these lively shores for centuries.

That night, we’ll all head out together to grab some dinner and check out local live music in one of the neighborhood's trendiest spots.

Trip Notes

Read through helpful flight details, trip notes and details about our Tuscany & Rome Trip.

Arrive

Fly into Florence (FLR)

You'll need to be in Florence by 2 PM on Day 1. We do recommend flying in earlier to have some time to explore the city on your own!

While we recommend flying into Florence, it's more budget friendly to book a roundtrip ticket to/from Rome and get a one way flight or train to Florence. You can also fly into Bologna or Pisa.

Depart

Fly out of Rome (FCO)

We recommend flying out of Rome on Day 8 or extending your trip and enjoying a few more days in Italy.

Passport Requirements

You’ll need a passport with at least two blank pages and valid for at least three months after your planned departure. We recommend having six months of validity beyond your trip dates, just to be safe.

Visas

Visas are not required for U.S. travelers for stays of 90 days or less (within a 180-day period).

Arrive Early

We don’t spend a lot of time in Florence during the trip, so if you have a long must-see list, we recommend arriving a day early to explore at your own pace. Florence is full of incredible art, architecture, and history – just be sure to book sightseeing tickets in advance.

Accommodations

Our hotels are very traditional and authentically Italian, which adds to the charm – but be aware that beds may be smaller and mattresses firmer than what you might be used to.

Free-Time Rec

If the Vatican Museums are on your list, don’t miss the chance to explore their stunning halls, including the Sistine Chapel. Book in advance and plan for Day 7, when you’ll have free time to wander Rome.

Expect Crowds

July to September is peak travel season in Italy, so you can expect crowded sights, lively bars, and busy restaurants, especially in popular destinations. Rome may be especially busy throughout 2025 due to the Jubilee Year.

Itinerary Changes

This itinerary is subject to change based on the weather conditions and traveler feedback. In the unlikely event that we are unable to run a specific activity, we will have a suitable alternative in place.

Weather

Summers in Tuscany and Rome are hot and sunny. Be sure to pack light, breathable clothing, sun protection (like a hat and sunscreen), and comfortable walking shoes to stay cool and comfortable while exploring.

Private Room Upgrades

Private room upgrades are available for an additional amount and can be added during booking. These are available on a first come basis so plan to book in advance if you are interested in your own room.

Let's Get Social

When should I arrive and depart, and how do I get to the hotel?

+

-

Our welcome dinner is on Day 1, so plan to arrive at Florence Airport (FLR) by 2:00 PM to give yourself time to get into the city and settle in. You can take a taxi, airport tram, or shuttle to reach the center — all are reliable and straightforward.

The trip ends on Day 8 in Rome, and you're free to fly out anytime that day from either Fiumicino (FCO) or Ciampino (CIA) airport. To get there, you can hop on the Leonardo Express train to Termini station, grab a taxi, or use a rideshare app.

What should I pack for Tuscany & Rome?

+

-

Bring comfortable walking shoes, stylish but breathable outfits, and layers for changing weather. A light jacket or sweater is helpful for cooler evenings, and don’t forget sunscreen, sunglasses, and a compact umbrella just in case.

What’s the vibe of this trip?

+

-

This trip is perfect for travelers who want to take in the beauty and depth of Italian culture. You'll explore art-filled cities, rolling countryside, and share great meals with a friendly, curious group. There’s plenty of space to relax, reflect, and enjoy those long, golden-hour dinners that Italy does so well.

What’s the pace of the itinerary?

+

-

The pace is a nice mix. You'll have full days exploring iconic sites in Florence and Rome, plus slower, scenic time in Tuscany. Expect early starts here and there, but there's built-in time to unwind with a glass of wine or explore on your own.

How much should I budget for meals and extras?

+

-

Italian meals are often leisurely and social – expect to spend a bit more if you're indulging in multi-course dinners or daily gelato runs.

We recommend budgeting around $200 USD on meals and personal expenses not included in the itinerary.

I have dietary restrictions. Will there be options for me?

+

-

Yes! Italy has plenty of fresh and flexible food options, and most restaurants are familiar with dietary needs like vegetarian, gluten-free, or dairy-free. Just let us know after booking. For more limited diets like vegan, we recommend packing a few go-to snacks for day trips or smaller towns.

What are the accommodations like?

+

-

We stay in comfortable and charming hotels or guesthouses in Florence, the Tuscan countryside, and Rome. Each spot is well-located and great for unwinding or catching up with the group after a day of exploring.

When’s the best time to go to Tuscany & Rome?

+

-

We run this trip in spring and fall to take advantage of the best weather. Expect mild temperatures, colorful countryside, and fewer crowds at popular spots. It’s a perfect window for vineyard visits, city strolls, and sunset views.
