Patagonia is one of those places that somehow exceeds every expectation. Your adventure begins in Santiago, Chile's vibrant capital, where you'll sip local wine at one of the country's oldest vineyards before heading south into Patagonia's dramatic landscapes. Explore turquoise lakes and towering peaks in Torres del Paine National Park, then cross into Argentina to sail through glacier country and walk across ancient ice at Perito Moreno Glacier. From there, continue to Buenos Aires for tango, incredible food and wine, and an unforgettable farewell around a traditional Argentine asado.
This trip blends some of South America's most iconic landscapes with the culture, food, and history that make Chile and Argentina so special. We've balanced active days in nature with plenty of opportunities to slow down, enjoy great meals together, and experience each destination through local guides, family-run experiences, and neighborhoods you might never discover on your own.
If you've been dreaming about Patagonia but don't want to figure out the logistics yourself, this is exactly the kind of trip FTLO does best. We handle the planning, transportation, and details so you can focus on exploring one of the world's most spectacular regions alongside a group of like-minded solo travelers who are there for the same reason you are.

Read through helpful flight details, trip notes and details about our Patagonia Trip.
Arrive
Fly into Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL) in Santiago, Chile.
Please be sure to book a flight that has you arrive at the airport by 1 PM on Day 1 and at the hotel by 3 PM. The cab ride is approximately 35 minutes.
Depart
Fly out of Buenos Aires from Ezeiza International Airport (EZE)
Private Room Upgrades
Private room upgrades are available for an additional amount and can be added during booking. These are available on a first-come basis, so plan to book in advance if you are interested in your own room.
Accommodations
You'll stay in boutique hotels chosen for their unique charm and local flavor — from lively city centers to scenic waterfront and mountain settings. Each offers a more personal, authentic experience than the large chains, with character matched to its surroundings.
Dietary Restrictions
Cuisine here is hearty and meat-centric — asados (barbecue) are a trip highlight. Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are easy to find in cities but limited in remote Patagonia, so let us know your needs early. We'll provide packed lunches on long travel or nature walk days, but bring a few favorite snacks to keep you fueled.
Altitude
Patagonia isn’t considered a high-altitude destination, so most travelers won’t need to acclimatize. Some nature walks reach higher elevations, but much of the trip takes place at relatively low elevations.
Stay hydrated, take your time on more active days, and listen to your body.
Weather
Patagonia's weather can change in an instant, so layers are essential. Pack a waterproof jacket and comfortable walking shoes, and you'll be ready for everything from sunshine to cool mountain breezes.
Seasons
Chile & Argentina’s seasons are reversed from the U.S., so spring here means fall there, and vice versa. FTLO runs trips during those shoulder seasons for mild weather, great scenery, and fewer crowds.
Early Mornings
Patagonia's landscapes are vast, and getting to the good stuff means long drives between destinations. Expect some early morning starts so we have enough daylight to travel and still have full time at each incredible spot, rather than rushing through it.
Itinerary Changes
This itinerary is subject to change based on the weather conditions and traveler feedback. In the unlikely event that we are unable to run a specific activity, we will have a suitable alternative in place.
Passports
All international passports must be valid at the time of entry and have at least one blank page.
Cancellation Policy
Due to requirements from our local suppliers, the Patagonia Trip follows a 95-day cancellation policy.

How much should I budget for meals and extras?
+
-
Outside of the meals included on the itinerary, we recommend budgeting around $300 USD for lunches, dinners, snacks, drinks, and any personal shopping. Patagonia offers everything from cozy cafés and casual local spots to memorable steak dinners, so you can easily tailor your spending to your travel style.
If you'd like to pick up souvenirs, extra wine, or a few additional treats along the way, it's always nice to have a little extra set aside.
I have dietary restrictions. Will there be options for me?
+
-
Absolutely. We can accommodate most dietary restrictions, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets. Just be sure to let us know when you book so we can share your needs with our local partners.
While larger cities like Santiago and Buenos Aires have plenty of options, Patagonia is much more remote, so choices can be more limited during nature-filled days and long travel days. We'll provide packed lunches when needed, and we recommend bringing a few favorite snacks to keep in your daypack just in case.
Any recommendations if I'd like to extend my stay?
+
-
Absolutely. If you have a little extra PTO, we'd highly recommend arriving a day or two early in Santiago or extending your stay in Buenos Aires.
In Santiago, spend more time exploring the city's neighborhoods and incredible food scene, or take a day trip to the colorful coastal towns of Valparaíso and Viña del Mar.
In Buenos Aires, catch a football match or polo game, tour the iconic Teatro Colón, or hop on a one-hour ferry to the charming UNESCO-listed town of Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay. It's an easy way to experience another country before heading home.
What are the accommodations like?
+
-
Throughout the trip, you'll stay in thoughtfully selected boutique hotels that reflect the character of each destination. From stylish city stays in Santiago and Buenos Aires to scenic properties in Patagonia, each hotel has been chosen for its comfort, location, and local charm.
Rooms are shared with one other FTLO traveler of the same gender, and private room upgrades are available for an additional cost on a first come, first served basis.
What's the pace of the itinerary?
+
-
This trip strikes a nice balance between active adventures and time to slow down and take it all in. You'll spend your days exploring national parks, walking on a glacier, discovering vibrant cities, and enjoying unforgettable local experiences, but we've also built in free evenings and time to explore on your own.
You don't need to be an experienced hiker to join. As long as you're comfortable walking several miles throughout the day and staying active, you'll feel right at home.
What should I pack?
+
-
Patagonia is famous for experiencing multiple seasons in a single day, so layers are the name of the game. We recommend packing moisture-wicking base layers, a warm mid-layer, and a waterproof, windproof jacket for changing conditions.
Comfortable waterproof trail shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and a small daypack are also must-haves for your time exploring the national parks and glaciers. Once you reach Buenos Aires, you'll also want a few outfits for dinners out and evenings exploring the city.
When should I arrive and depart, and how do I get to the hotel?
+
-
Plan to fly into Santiago, Chile (SCL) and arrive by 1:00 PM on Day 1 so you have plenty of time to reach the hotel before check-in and our Welcome Dinner.
Your trip ends in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where you can depart from either EZE or AEP on the final day. Since many flights leave later in the day, you'll usually have time to enjoy one last stroll or coffee before heading to the airport.
Airport transfers are not included, but both airports offer convenient taxi and rideshare options.
What's the vibe of this trip?
+
-
If your ideal vacation includes incredible scenery, staying active, and ending the day over great food and conversation, this trip was made for you.
Patagonia is all about big landscapes and unforgettable moments, while Santiago and Buenos Aires add incredible food, wine, and culture to the mix. Expect glacier walks, scenic road trips, boutique hotels, local experiences, and plenty of laughs with a group of curious, like-minded travelers who are just as excited to be here as you are.
What's the weather like?
+
-
FTLO runs this trip during Patagonia's shoulder seasons, when the scenery is spectacular and the weather is generally mild. That said, Patagonia is famously unpredictable. Sunshine, wind, clouds, and even a quick rain shower can all happen in the same afternoon.
Temperatures are typically comfortable for time in nature and exploring, especially with the right layers. We'll send a detailed packing list before your trip so you'll know exactly what to bring.
Will altitude be an Issue on this trip?
+
-
Patagonia isn’t considered a high-altitude destination, so you won’t need the same kind of acclimatization required in places like Cusco or Machu Picchu.
Some nature walks reach higher elevations, and you may notice the altitude during more active stretches, but most of the trip takes place at relatively low elevations. As always, take your time, stay hydrated, and listen to your body.
