Trip Notes
Read through helpful flight details, trip notes and details about our FTLO x Thursday Barcelona & South of France Trip.
Arrive
Fly into Nice (NCE)
You’ll need to arrive at Nice Airport by 3:00 PM on Day 1 and reach the hotel by 4 PM. Once you're settled, feel free to explore the city, relax, or enjoy the beach!
Depart
Fly out of Barcelona (BCN)
We recommend flying out of Barcelona or extending your trip to spend a few extra days in Spain or another nearby European destination.
Dietary Restrictions
Mediterranean cuisine includes seafood, meats, and dairy. Veggie, vegan, and gluten-free options exist but may be limited in rural areas. Let us know your preferences early, and consider packing a few reliable snacks.
High Season
Barcelona gets crowded in summer, especially at major attractions. Book key tickets like Parc Güell in advance to avoid long lines or sellouts.
Accommodations
We’ve selected boutique hotels that balance comfort, style, and excellent locations in both Nice and Barcelona. Because Nice’s city center is made up of older historic buildings, room sizes there are often smaller than what you’ll experience in Barcelona’s Eixample district, which was designed with wider streets and larger buildings.
Both stays reflect the personalities of their surroundings, and differences in room size are a natural part of the architectural contrast between these cities.
Itinerary Changes
This itinerary is subject to change based on the weather conditions and traveler feedback. In the unlikely event that we are unable to run a specific activity, we will have a suitable alternative in place.
Passport Requirements
Your passport must have at least two blank pages and be valid for 3+ months after your departure from the Schengen zone. Six months’ validity is recommended to be safe.
Getting Around
To explore like a local, we’ll rely on Europe’s excellent public transportation system throughout this trip. That means regular walking and using trains, metros, and buses in both Barcelona and the South of France. It’s efficient, easy to navigate, and part of the everyday rhythm of these destinations.
While we keep a comfortable pace, this trip is best suited for travelers who feel comfortable being on their feet and navigating public transit with the group.
If you have mobility concerns or questions about accessibility, we’re always happy to talk through the details so you can make the best decision for yourself.
Weather
Early summer brings sunny days and cooler evenings, with highs in the 70s–low 80s °F. Mid-summer (July–Aug) is hottest, reaching the mid-80s °F with little rain. September stays warm, and the Mediterranean is at its peak temperature.

How much should I budget for meals and extras?
+
-
Between tapas in Barcelona and wine-paired meals in Provence, this trip is made for food lovers. Whether you're trying fresh seafood on the coast or grabbing pastries from a French café, meals are affordable and always delicious.
We recommending budgeting around $350 USD for meals and extras, depending on your personal consumption habits.
I have dietary restrictions. Will there be options for me?
+
-
Yes, just let us know your preferences ahead of time. Spain and France both offer great food scenes, but menus can lean heavily on bread, cheese, and seafood. Vegetarians will find solid options, though vegan and gluten-free travelers may have to ask more questions or get creative with local fare. Your trip leader can help you navigate menus, and packing a few go-to snacks is always smart.
What are the accommodations like?
+
-
You’ll stay in boutique, locally inspired hotels selected for comfort, style, and excellent locations.
In Nice, rooms tend to be more compact, reflecting the city’s historic architecture and charming old-world layout.
In Barcelona’s Eixample district, hotels are typically more spacious thanks to its wider boulevards and more modern design.
Room sizes can vary by city, but each property is carefully selected for its character, location, and overall experience.
What should I pack?
+
-
Bring light, breathable clothing for the Mediterranean summer, along with comfortable shoes for city walking and cobblestone streets. Don’t forget swimwear, sunglasses, and sun protection for beach days. A few stylish yet comfy outfits will take you from sightseeing to wine tastings or sunset dinners with ease. A light jacket or layer is helpful for breezy evenings, especially in the south of France.
Any recommendations if I'd like to extend my time abroad?
+
-
Barcelona is one of Europe’s major travel hubs, with frequent flights to destinations across the continent and beyond. If you have extra time, you can check out Greece or head west to Tuscany & Rome. You could also travel north to explore central Europe or Scandinavia and its mix of lakes, forests, and modern cities.
Who is Thursday and why are we partnering with them?
+
-
Thursday is one of the world’s largest IRL dating communities centered around in-person experiences rather than apps. Their events and trips cater to singles looking to connect. Since so many of our FTLO travelers have shared that they're single and looking to connect with other singles, we thought a partnership would be a perfect fit.
When’s the best time to go to Barcelona and Southern France?
+
-
FTLO runs this trip in the summer and early fall, when the Mediterranean is at its best. Expect sunny skies, warm temps in the 70s–80s°F (21–30°C), and plenty of daylight. Occasional breezes or brief rain showers are possible, especially near the coast.
When should I arrive and depart, and how do I get to the hotel?
+
-
Plan to arrive at Nice Airport (NCE) by 3 on Day 1 to get settled before the welcome dinner. A taxi, Aerobús, or rideshare can get you to the city center in about 30 minutes.
The trip wraps up on Day 8 in Barcelona, and you’re free to depart anytime after hotel checkout.
What’s the pace of the itinerary?
+
-
This itinerary is smooth and balanced – two cities, a mix of planned activities and free time, and enough flexibility to explore at your pace. You’ll cover cultural sites, beach towns, and vineyards without feeling rushed.
It’s ideal for travelers who want both structure and spontaneity.
What’s the vibe of this trip?
+
-
This trip blends city sparkle with coastal calm. Expect flavorful food, seaside afternoons, and a great group energy. You’ll dive into Barcelona’s creative pulse, sip wine in the French countryside, and enjoy laid-back beach time along the Mediterranean — all with a welcoming crew of solo travelers.

Both regions enjoy a classic Mediterranean climate with long, sunny days, warm temperatures, and little rainfall through summer.
Late spring (May–June): Pleasant and sunny, with highs in the mid 70s °F (~24 °C). Evenings are comfortable, and light breezes are common along the coast.

How is this different from a regular FTLO trip?
