Day 1 – Seoul
Welcome to Korea
Welcome to Seoul! Once everyone is settled in, we'll get together to kick off the trip and meet the crew you'll be spending the next 10 days with.
Then we'll head out for your first taste of Korea together. Dinner is all about getting into the rhythm of the city, with Korean cuisine served in one of Seoul's lively neighborhoods. It's a relaxed first night, but don't be surprised if the group is already talking about what they want to see, eat, and do next.
If you arrive early, we recommend giving yourself some extra time to explore Seoul before the trip officially begins. There's no shortage of neighborhoods, cafés, shops, and street food to discover, and you'll have the comfort of knowing your group and trip leader are waiting for you when the adventure kicks off.

How much should I budget for meals and extras?
+
-
Nine breakfasts, four lunches, and four dinners are included, so you'll mainly be budgeting for meals outside the itinerary, drinks, snacks, shopping, tips, and personal expenses.
We'd recommend planning around $300–$500 for the trip, depending on how much you eat, drink, shop, and explore. Korea has plenty of affordable casual food options, but Seoul and Busan also have no shortage of restaurants, cafés, cocktails, and splurge-worthy meals if you want them.
I have dietary restrictions. Will there be options for me?
+
-
We'll do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions, but Korean cuisine can be challenging for certain diets. While gluten free can often be accommodated, vegetarian and vegan can be a challenge. Fish, seafood, broths, and less obvious ingredients are common, and many dishes may contain seafood even when it isn't the main ingredient.
Please let us know about your dietary needs as early as possible. If your options are particularly limited, we recommend bringing some snacks as a backup.
Any recommendations if I'd like to extend my stay?
+
-
Absolutely. Since the trip starts in Seoul and ends in Busan, you have an easy opportunity to add a few extra days before or after the trip. Arrive early to explore more of Seoul’s neighborhoods, cafés, markets, and nightlife, or stay after to spend more time in Busan.
Looking to see more of Asia while you’re here? If you’re up for adding another destination to the itinerary, check out our trips to Thailand, Vietnam, or Bali. They’re all great options if you’re already making the long journey and want to turn your South Korea adventure into a bigger trip through Asia.
What should I pack?
+
-
Pack comfortable shoes first. This is an active trip with a lot of walking, public transportation, sightseeing, and time on your feet.
Bring versatile layers, a light jacket, comfortable everyday clothes, and anything you like to have for longer travel days. If you're traveling during spring or fall, expect generally mild temperatures, but weather can vary between Seoul, Mokpo, Jeju, and Busan.
A small day bag will also come in handy for sightseeing days.
When should I arrive and depart, and how do I get to the hotel?
+
-
You'll fly into Incheon International Airport (ICN) and should plan to be in Seoul by 1 PM on Day 1. We recommend arriving earlier if you'd like some time to explore Seoul before the trip begins. Airport transfers are not included, so you'll make your own way from ICN to the hotel. We'll provide the arrival details you need before the trip.
On departure day, you'll fly out of Gimhae International Airport (PUS), and flights can be scheduled anytime.
What's the pace of the itinerary?
+
-
This is a full, fast-moving itinerary. You're covering Seoul, the DMZ, Jeonju, Mokpo, Jeju, and Busan in 10 days, with plenty of included activities along the way. Expect walking, public transportation, travel days, early starts, and a lot to see and do.
The upside is that you get a much broader look at South Korea than you would on a single-city trip. If you like packing your days with experiences, you'll love the pace.
What's the vibe of this trip?
+
-
Think foodie, cultural, energetic, and curious. You'll get the big South Korea moments, but we're also getting into the places, traditions, food, and everyday experiences that help you understand the country beyond the obvious tourist stops. There's history, pop culture, nature, food, and plenty of opportunities to laugh with your group along the way. Come ready to be active, try things, and embrace a little bit of organized chaos.
What's the weather like?
+
-
South Korea experiences all four seasons, and conditions can vary between Seoul, Mokpo, Jeju, and Busan. FTLO runs this trip during spring and fall, when you can generally expect mild temperatures, with fall bringing the chance to experience Korea's famous foliage. Pack layers so you're prepared for changing temperatures throughout the day.
